Impa Kasanganay: 2023 PFL Light Heavyweight Tournament winner aiming to defend

Impa Kasanganay (18-4) will be looking to win the light heavyweight tournament for a second successive year after winning it in 2023. This will be his fifth fight of 2024 as he fought Johnny Eblen in Riyadh in a PFL vs Bellator tournament in February but he lost a split decision. That is his only loss in the last two and a half years however and he has won nine of his last ten fights now. Two of his wins en route to this final came by knockout and he won his semi-final against Josh Silveira thanks to a unanimous decision.

Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov: Ex-Bellator man riding six-fight win streak

Turkmenistan’s Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov (24-7-1) comes into this final having won his last six bouts and he will be confident. He has not lost a fight in over three years and he will be looking to upset Kasanganay in this final. He won a unanimous decision over Rob Wilkinson in the semi-finals and four of his last five fights have gone the distance. 13 of his 24 wins have come by knockout but he also possesses good submission skills and can grind out the decision if needed.

Impa Kasanganay vs Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov Prediction

The 2024 PFL Light Heavyweight Tournament Final sees last year’s winner Impa Kasanganay face off against Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov in what should be a highly entertaining fight.

Kasanganay is a quality operator and he showed that last year. His only loss in his last ten bouts came via split decision to Johnny Eblen earlier this year in February. Otherwise, he has been absolutely dominant and he will be confident of winning once again.

Yagshimuradov is the latest man to challenge him and it will be interesting to see if he can pose Kasanganay more problems than most.

That will not be easy however and while Yagshimuradov has a good record on paper, it does not possess the quality that Kasanganay has fought. We expect Kasanganay to repeat the feat from last year and get the win.

Prediction: Impa Kasanganay to win
