Ian Machado Garry vs Carlos Prates prediction
The main event at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City promises to be a cracker as two of the most dangerous men in the welterweight division meet with ramifications on the top ten in the rankings.
Ian Machado Garry (15-1) is coming off his first career loss at the hands of Shavkat Rakhmonov but while he lost a unanimous decision, it was an incredibly close fight and Machado Garry arguably saw his stock rise after that performance. Prior to that, he was unbeaten in his 15 bouts and was beating anybody and everybody put in front of him.
He now is paired up with Carlos Prates (21-6) who is on a 11-fight winning streak of his own coming into this one. Most of his career has been spent outside the UFC but he earned his shot via Dana White’s Contender Series in November 2023 and has made quite the impression during an incredible 2024.
The Brazilian fought four times and knocked out everybody he met. Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, Li Jiangliang and Neil Magny were all KO’d and Prates won the Performance of the Night bonus on each occasion.
He now faces the toughest test of his career but there will no changing in his approach. He will look to knockout Machado Garry from the first bell.
There are two scenarios here that could easily play out and the Prates knockout victory is certainly one of them. We do however think that Machado Garry will be too good technically for him and we expect the Irishman to survive the occasional rocky moment but to come through it and grind Prates down. He will test the Brazilian’s conditioning and we think Machado Garry either stops him late or wins on the scorecards.
Prediction: Ian Machado Garry to win
