PREVIEW

Great Yarmouth plays the picturesque host to the first fixture on turf following the restart of the horse racing in the UK with a 10-race card on the agenda. The first race gets underway with a Handicap for three-year-olds at 12:45 in what looks like a highly competitive affair. Celestran and Zabeel Champion are both in with a chance while Group One Power could be a big player on his handicap debut as he goes in search of a hat-trick of wins.

The 13:20 also looks like a wide-open contest with the well-bred Dubious Affair taking to the track for the first time under a new yard in what could prove to be a shrewd pick-up for Charlie Fellowes following her move from Sir Michael Stoute.

C&D winner Dutch Story makes great appeal in the 14:30 with an 8lb rise potentially not enough to stop him getting himself in front again. He actually won over C&D on two occasions last season with the second of those two successes showing his character to get home on heavy ground but he should be much more suited to this surface and is fancied for the win.

Enemy holds a Derby entry and is the standout horse in the field in the 15:05 Novice race for three-year-olds. Mister Snowdon could mount a big challenge but John Gosden has had two odds-on winners in the last two days and this could continue that trend. Champion jockey Oisin Murphy takes the ride for the €420,000 yearling that won a solid Maiden at Ascot in September and he’s the one to beat.

Archie Watson enjoyed a good day on Tuesday with two winners at Newcastle and he will have high hopes of another successful day with Higher Kingdom in with a great shout in the 15:40. He won on debut in October on the polytrack at Kempton and looked comfortable doing so over this distance of 7f. There are several unknown quantities in the race but he has a strong bloodline and should be able to get his nose in front once again.

Mark Johnston went one better on Tuesday as he notched three winners across the meetings at Newcastle and Kempton. His horses, unsurprisingly, look in good touch and Maydanny could be another winner for him on Wednesday. He came second in both of his races last term with one of those at this distance but more is to come and having been gelded, he runs off an attractive mark here.

In the penultimate race of the day at 17:25, Johnston will team up with Franny Norton in the search of another success. In a race with numerous chances, it may pay to side with Robert Guiscard at a biggish price who should be able to challenge for a spot in the frame at the very least. Unable to get his nose in front thus far, he placed in his last race of the previous campaign in Handicap company over C&D and he should be in the mix once again.
