Holstein Kiel Preview: Desperate need for points

Holstein Kiel come out of the international break rock bottom of the Bundesliga and three points adrift of 16th-placed Bochum. With only four wins from 26 league games so far this season, that statistic simply has to improve and fast if they are to stand any hope of surviving relegation to 2. Bundesliga.

Their last victory came away to Union Berlin by a goal to nil and since then, the hosts have drawn 2-2 against Stuttgart and been beaten 3-1 by Heidenheim. Rediscovering the defensive grit that saw them shut out Union will be vital in this one.

Werder Bremen Preview: Midtable mediocrity

Werder Bremen are starting to verge into the territory of having little to play for going into the business end of the season. With 13 points between them and the bottom three, they won’t be going down. But with nine points between them and the top six, European football looks unlikely as well.

Bad form has been what’s led Werder into mid-table wasteland. They’ve lost four of their last five Bundesliga fixtures and were most recently beaten 2-4 at home against Borussia Monchengladbach. It’s even more disappointing when considering that the odd game out saw them defeat reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Holstein Kiel Team News: Concussion rules out Erras

Erras won’t play a part in this one due to concussion, whilst Kelati, Kleine-Bekel and Nekic all miss out through injury. Machino, Harres and Skrzybski are likely fighting for two positions in attack.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Weiner; Becker, Zec, Komenda; Porath, Knudsen, Remberg, Gigovic, Tolkin; Machino, Harres

Unavailable: Erras (Injured), Kelati (Injured), Kleine-Bekel (Injured), Nekic (Injured)

Werder Bremen Team News: Only one out

The visitors are missing just one player for the trip to Kiel as it stands, that being Milos Veljkovic. The Serbian defender has a muscular problem.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Zetterer; Stark, Friedl, Jung; Weiser, Schmid, Lynen, Stage, Kabore; Ducksch, Silva

Unavailable: Veljkovic (Injured)

Holstein Kiel vs Werder Bremen Prediction

Holstein Kiel need to win this game, it’s the exact sort of fixture against a mid-table team where three points could well be there for the taking. However, Werder Bremen have goals in them despite their questionable backline and that poses a big danger for the home side. It could however, lead to an entertaining battle for the neutral.

The outcome itself is hard to predict as Werder can be unpredictable. They are struggling for form but that win over Bayer Leverkusen underlined how good they can be on their day. But either way, it’s well worth backing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.

Holstein Kiel vs Werder Bremen Tip: Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score
