Holstein Kiel Preview: A poor side
Following promotion to the top-flight of German football last season, Holstein Kiel have endured a very difficult start to the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly tucked inside the bottom two and the automatic relegation places with just one win in their opening ten matches of the campaign.
The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago before the November international break thanks to Werder goals from Jens Stage and Oli Burke. They sit four points adrift of safety after just ten matches of the season.
Mainz Preview: Steady Mainz
Under the management of Danish coach Bo Henriksen, Mainz begin the 11th match day of the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table with three victories, four draws and three defeats. Their ten games have been entertaining to watch, too, producing 29 goals with 15 scored and 14 conceded.
The visitors managed to pull off an impressive performance and result a couple of weeks ago against Borussia Dortmund at the MEWA ARENA. Goals from all of their front three, Lee Jae-sung, Jonathan Burkardt and Paul Nebel, allowed for Mainz to defeat Dortmund by three goals to one and means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last five matches.
Holstein Kiel Team News: Several injuries
The visitors have several injury issues for this weekend with the likes of Steven Skrzybski, Benedikt Pichler, Max Geschwill and Carl Johansson all out injured.
As well as those injury absentees, Magnus Knudsen was missing through suspension with several other injuries such as Colin Kleine-Bekel and Andu Kelati.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Weiner; Ivezic, Erras, Rosenboom; Becker, Gigovic, Porath, Remberg, Puchacz; Harres, Arp
Unavailable: Johansson (Injured), Bernhardsson (Injured), Kelati (Injured), Kleine-Bekel (Injured), Skrzybski (Injured), Knudsen (Suspended), Pichler (Injured), Geschwill (Injured)

Mainz Team News: Couple of injuries
Mainz are dealing with a couple of absentees for this one but there is nothing fresh from their defeat of Borussia Dortmund so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven.
Austria international attacker Karim Onisiwo is dealing with a gastrointestinal illness, whilst Nelson Weiper is also unavailable for this one due to injury.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Zentner; Kohr, Bell, Leitsch; Caci, Sano, Amiri, Mwene; Nebel, Lee; Burkardt

Holstein Kiel vs Mainz Prediction
With just one win in their ten matches so far this season, Holstein Kiel have significantly underperformed throughout this campaign but they have been quite entertaining to watch with their ten matches consisting of 37 goals. Mainz, on the other hand, have been a little steadier, especially defensively, and that has helped their really good form of late. Mainz are the firm favourites for this one that has the potential to be quite a fun encounter.
