Holger Rune vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas prediction

Holger Rune was forced to retire in his first-round match in Monte-Carlo against Nuno Borges, with the Norwegian already down 6-2 3-0. He had complained about food poisoning at the event but is now back fit and firing and hoping for a deep run at this tournament.

Rune says he believes he can return to his best level, with Albert Ramos-Vinolas his first-round opponent in Barcelona. The 37-year-old Spaniard, who once made the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2016 and reached 17 in the world, is now ranked 234. 

Ramos-Vinolas failed in the second-round of qualifying for Monte-Carlo. He does however lead the head-to-head with two victories on clay in 2021 at this event and also Buenos Aires. Nevertheless, Rune was incredibly young during both encounters and is a more refined player these days, while Ramos-Vinolas has only declined. 

This should be a dominant win for the Norwegian as he looks to get his season back on track after two successive defeats following the final appearance at Indian Wells.
