Hoffenheim Preview: Maintaining the cushion

Hoffenheim are not safe from relegation with only six wins from 28 league matches so far, but with a five-point-gap between themselves in the bottom three, they have precious breathing room in their favour. But defeat here opens the door slightly ajar, so the pressure is still very much on the hosts.

It was a miserable most recent fixture for Hoffenheim, who saw centre-back Leo Ostigard sent off in a 3-1 defeat away at RB Leipzig. It’s now four league games without a win as a result of that loss.

Mainz Preview: Three without a win

Are Mainz floundering in their quest to achieve something truly special? Two points dropped at home to rock-bottom Holstein Kiel was the third league fixture that Mainz have failed to pick up victory from.

Leipzig are hot on Mainz’s heels following their win over Hoffenheim last weekend. The latter has recorded two points from the last nine available to them, so three points in this one would be priceless.

Hoffenheim vs Mainz Prediction

Hoffenheim may well sense an opportunity in this encounter when taking into account Mainz’s recent hiccups. The pressure of what the visitors are trying to achieve may just be catching up to them. However, this Mainz team are made of strong stuff and taking on a defensive weak Hoffenheim side may just work in their favour. Consider utilising the double chance market and backing either a draw or victory for Mainz.

Hoffenheim vs Mainz Tip: Double chance - draw/Mainz
