Hoffenheim Preview: Improvement under Ilzer

In the November international break, Hoffenheim took the decision to part company with Pellegrino Matarazzo and replace him with Sturm Graz boss Christian Ilzer. It took some time but they have discovered some form and an improved run.

However, that improvement in their performances and their results has since been hit by a defeat to St Pauli in Hamburg a couple of weeks ago before the March international break due to a 51st minute winner scored by Noah Weisshaupt.

Augsburg Preview: Strong form for Augsburg

Augsburg have endured a generally poor campaign with the visitors often flirting with a relegation battle but they have now since moved themselves into the top-half of the table with an impressive run of form in the last couple of months.

They most recently backed up a 1-0 win at the Westfalenstadion against Borussia Dortmund by defeating Wolfsburg by a goal to nil a couple of weeks ago at home. That means they are now unbeaten in their last ten matches in the Bundesliga with nine clean sheets in that time.

Hoffenheim Team News: Several doubts

Augsburg Team News: A few issues

Augsburg are dealing with a few issues as Reece Oxford remains out due to long COVID, whilst Yusuf Kabadayi is sidelined due to injury. They also have some key injury doubts, too, such as Robert Gumny and Mergim Berisha.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Dahmen; Matsima, Gouweleeuw, Zesiger; Wolf, Rexhbecaj, Onyeka, Giannoulis; Jensen, Claude-Maurice; Tietz

Hoffenheim vs Augsburg Prediction

Hoffenheim, as mentioned, are simply trying to get to the end of this season. It has been a disappointing campaign throughout and they are languishing in the bottom-half but safety seems secured so simply building for next season is the way to go now. With that state of inertia, it isn’t great to come up against such an in-form side that can get into Europe so siding with Augsburg looks a good bet for this one.
