Hobart Hurricanes Preview: Home comforts key to Hobart’s journey

Hobart Hurricanes head into the final having been the best team across BBL 14 and results reflect their dominance. They’ve played 11 games, winning eight of them and losing just twice with a single no result. Nathan Ellis’ side also boast a 100% record at Ninja Stadium, winning all their fixtures played in Tasmania.

Now it’s about holding their nerve against a side whom they have already defeated once on this ground back on January 10th, winning by six wickets after successfully chasing down 165 with 19 balls remaining.

Sydney Thunder Preview: Redemption for leader Warner

Plenty predicted an exciting campaign for Sydney Thunder, but for them to have come so far in such a short space of time maybe wasn’t as expected. But David Warner’s first job as a captain again has been a triumph, with the Thunder having consistently defied the odds all season, despite several injuries and the odd international call-up.

They made it through the hard way, beating an in-form Melbourne Stars in the knockout before claiming the ultimate ‘Sydney Smash’ bragging rights by overcoming Sydney Thunder in the Challenger on Friday. Chasing 152 to win at the SCG, the Thunder made it home in penultimate over.

Hobart Hurricanes Betting Analysis

If Hobart Hurricanes are to triumph in the final, the notoriously big-hitting Australian international Tim David could prove to be decisive as he was the last time these two teams clashed. David struck an unbeaten 68 off 38 balls to guide his side to victory on that occasion and has racked up 254 runs at an impressive average of 42.33 across BBL 14. Explore backing David to not only score 20+ runs here, but also to strike the most match sixes for Hobart.

Sydney Thunder Betting Analysis

One player who has gone somewhat under the radar for Sydney Thunder but whom has proven to be an excellent overseas signing is Sam Billings and this was typified by his innings in the Challenger. Wicketkeeper Billings came in at number four with the game in the balance and his knock of 42 not out ensured the Thunder got over the line. His calm nature under pressure is well suited to a final and a stake on him as finish as his side’s top batter warrants serious consideration.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder Expert Prediction

The huge excitement surrounding this final is partly due to the teams involved and also down to the expected close nature of such a game. On paper, Hobart Hurricanes are the stronger team and being at home is massive from their point of view, as they’ve been flawless so far at Ninja Stadium. But what they don’t have is the experience of getting over the line, this being the team who have never won the BBL in its 14 years of existence.

Sydney Thunder’s ace in the pack comes through their captain. Warner is tried and tested, a former IPL winning captain and Australia international skipper. His side couldn’t wish for a better leader to guide them through the pressure-cooker of a big final.

But Hobart have beaten them once already and if they play to the levels that’s we’ve come to expect from them across BBL 14, then their long Big Bash League title wait should come to an end here.
