Hobart Hurricanes Preview: Horrific batting collapse downs Canes
Hobart Hurricanes were bowled out for just 74 in 12.4 overs batting first against Melbourne Renegades, with just three players recording a double-figure score. Only Nathan Ellis’ 35 prevented it from being even more embarrassing as the Hurricanes couldn’t handle the bowler-friendly conditions in Geelong.
Whilst Hobart’s bowlers tried to make it somewhat of a competition by taking a wicket in the second over of Melbourne Renegades’ run chase, the damage had already been done and the Renegades coasted home after exactly nine overs despite losing four wickets.
Perth Scorchers Preview: Comfortable win to begin new title charge
Perth Scorchers were widely expected to get off to a winning start and that’s exactly what they did against Melbourne Stars at Optus Stadium. Restricting a weakened Stars side to an under-par 146/9, the hosts kept their cool in the run chase, despite losing three wickets inside the power play.
After finding themselves 37/3, the Scorchers would end up losing just one further wicket for the remaining runs required, reaching their victory target with 2.5 overs still to go in their innings. Young star Cooper Connolly top-scored with 64.
Hobart Hurricanes Betting Analysis
Bowler Nathan Ellis was arguably the only player to come out of Hobart’s defeat at the hands of Melbourne Renegades with any credit, inexplicably top-scoring with the bat, before taking two wickets with the ball. The Hurricanes skipper is going to be absolutely crucial to his side’s chances of making the play-offs this season from a bowling perspective and he looked sharp. Back Ellis to follow that up with over 1.5 match wickets in this next game.
Perth Scorchers Betting Analysis
The manner of Cooper Connolly’s knock against the Stars was extremely impressive, coming to the crease with his side under pressure and navigating his way through that. The 21-year-old mixed both control with aggression and three 6s was testament to that. The future is bright for a player already capped by Australia at T20i level and he warrants backing to accumulate another 20+ runs here.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Perth Scorchers Expert Prediction
Hobart Hurricanes have always been a significantly better side at home than on the road for a number of seasons. The travel to and from Tasmania makes Ninja Stadium a difficult place to go for opposition teams and that has to be taken into account here.
However, Perth Scorchers are a better all-round unit than their opponents with more depth down the order and a bowling attack packed full of stars. No doubt they are well-equipped to handle the rigours of an away game in Tasmania and should get the better of a Hobart side who simply must improve.
