Hellas Verona Preview: Much-needed victory for Verona

Hellas Verona, coached by former Empoli boss Paolo Zanetti, had started the season extremely well for a second successive season before once again drifting into a relegation battle but they have steadied themselves to mean they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table.

The home team come into this one on the back of a much-needed 1-0 defeat of bottom-of-the-table Monza at Stadio Brianteo last weekend thanks to an early own goal. That much-needed win ended a four-match winless run of form.

Atalanta Preview: Bergamasci’s blip

Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta were rampant through the autumn and looked as though they could genuinely challenge for a first ever Scudetto title but a very average recent run of form has them seven points off top spot ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

The Bergamasci come into this one on the back of a defeat to Bologna in the quarter-final of the Coppa Italia during the week. They have now managed just two victories in their last ten matches across all competitions.

Hellas Verona Team News: Duda suspended

Slovakia international attacking midfielder Ondrej Duda is missing through suspension for Hellas Verona this weekend as they also deal with several injury absentees such as key midfielder Suat Serdar and key attacker Casper Tengstedt.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Montipo; Daniliuc, Coppola, Ghilardi; Tchatchoua, Lazovic, Kastanos, Suslov; Daniel Mosquera, Sarr

Atalanta Team News: Defensive injuries

Key first-choice goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi is missing for Atalanta due to a thigh injury with experienced defender Sead Kolasinac once again sidelined, whilst key attacker Ademola Lookman is now missing due to a knee injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Patricio; Djimsiti, Hien, Toloi; Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Ruggeri; Brescianini, De Ketelaere; Retegui

Hellas Verona vs Atalanta Prediction

Hellas Verona are sitting tucked inside the middle-of-the-table but remain in danger of being dragged into the bottom three and the relegation places, which is the general expectation and the pre-season expectation. They face an Atalanta side that are in shaky form but they have been in those ruts throughout Gasperini’s tenure and they have always come through it. Up against a team that remain very average, Atalanta should always be backed.
