The Prediction

Hawthorn have started the 2025 season strongly, with victories over Carlton and Essendon in the opening rounds, and they have won 15 of their last 18 matched dating to the 2024 campaign. Greater Western Sydney have also made a strong start to the season, winning their first two matches against Melbourne and Collingwood.

Recent history between these two sides suggests a close encounter, with the past six matches being decided by 22 points or less. Hawthorn claimed a narrow six-point victory in their last meeting at this venue in 2024.

Both teams have been impressive offensively, with Hawthorn averaging 53.7 inside 50s per game and GWS not far behind at 53. The Hawks have also been strong in contested possessions, averaging 134 per game compared to the Giants' 125.5.

Given Hawthorn's recent form and home ground advantage, they are slight favourites to win this match. However, GWS's strong start to the season and the historically close encounters between these teams suggest it will be a tightly contested game. Expect Hawthorn to edge out a narrow victory in what promises to be an exciting clash between two premiership contenders.
