TSZ TIPS
RORY MCILROY
- It has been a frustrating season for Rory McIlroy but he finished fourth in the BMW Championship and he will be desperate to build on that ahead of the Ryder Cup with another strong performance potentially on the cards at East Lake.
- The Northern Irishman will start the tournament eight shots back but with the pressure off, it could encourage some of McIlroy’s best golf of the year as he attempts to close down the leaders and he makes appeal to post the lowest score of the week.
TIP: Lowest 72-hole score (12/1)
JUSTIN THOMAS
- Justin Thomas has shown great consistency on this course and he is well-fancied to go close once again despite starting six shots behind opening leader Patrick Cantlay which will leave little room for error if he is to claw back that difference.
- The American will need his putter to be hot to claim the title here but he showed what he can do last year with three putts from outside 25 feet which tied his personal record and it is those type of efforts that will be crucial here.
TIP: Winner e/w (18/1)
XANDER SCHAUFFELE
- With the Olympic gold medal under his belt, Xander Schauffele will hold no fear here having won the 72-hole tournament last year while he also clinched a success at East Lake back in 2017 when he was a rookie.
- Starting eight shots behind, it may be a tall order for the 27-year-old to claw that back over the week but he certainly knows how to go low around this course and he is capable of posting the lowest score.
TIP: Lowest 72-hole score (12/1)
