Girona Preview: Michel’s entertainers

After finishing third in their fifth ever La Liga campaign last season, Girona lost several key players and they have since, naturally, drifted down the table but they remain in contention for a top seven or eight finish with potential UEFA competition qualification on the cards.

The Catalans come into this one on the back of a difficult run of form, though, which continued with a 3-0 defeat to Athletic Club due to an Oihan Sancet hat-trick at San Mames last weekend. They have now suffered five defeats in their last six matches across all competitions.

Getafe Preview: Jose Bordalas’ destroyers

After 23 matches of the campaign, Getafe have scored just 18 goals with only bottom-of-the-table Real Valladolid having scored fewer than them. They do, though, begin the 24th match day of the campaign sitting five points clear of the bottom three and the relegation places.

The visitors’ most recent outing saw them defeat Deportivo Alaves by a goal to nil at Mendizorroza in the Basque Country thanks to a 44th minute winning penalty from Mauro Arambarri. They are now unbeaten in their last five matches in La Liga.

Girona Team News: Key doubts

Former Liverpool midfielder Arthur joined Girona on loan from Juventus during the winter transfer window but he is now an injury doubt for this weekend alongside key men such as Arnau Martinez, Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld and Bojan Miovski.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Paulo Gazzaniga; Alejandro Frances, Juanpe, Krejci, Miguel Gutierrez; Yangel Herrera, Ivan Martin; Tsygankov, Van de Beek, Bryan Gil; Abel Ruiz

Unavailable:

Questionable: Arnau Martinez (Injured), Arthur (Injured), Danjuma (Injured), Miovski (Injured)

Getafe Team News: Small squad

Getafe have a very small squad that Jose Bordalas has had to adapt to this season with the best example of that being defensive midfielder Christantus Uche being deployed as a striker. Key man Luis Milla remains an injury doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): David Soria; Jorge Iglesias, Domingos Duarte, Omar Alderete, Diego Rico; Ramon Terrats, Djene, Mauro Arambarri, Juan Bernat; Juanmi, Uche

Unavailable:

Questionable: Luis Milla (Injured)

Girona vs Getafe Prediction

Much like boxing, styles make fights and games. This, though, may not be one of those occasions. Whilst Girona’s aggressive and attacking style should contrast well to Getafe’s aggressive and defensive hostility and reactivity; the likelihood is that we simply just get a game that is cancels out the hosts’ entertainment, especially given their poor run of form. Given the form and Getafe’s ability to take advantage of any fragility or vulnerability, a double chance bet in favour of the away team may well be of good value for this one.

Girona vs Getafe Tip: Double chance – Getafe to win or draw
