Giga Chikadze vs David Onama prediction
Giga Chikadze (15-4) returns to action for the first time since losing a unanimous decision to Arnold Allen at UFC 304 in his last fight last July. The talented Georgian had won nine fights in a row but has since lost two of his last three and he will be desperate to get back on track albeit against a very tough opponent.
He comes up against David Onama (13-2) who is rising up the division and is looking for his fourth successive win in the Octagon. He has won five of his last six with his only setback coming against Nate Landwehr during that time. He won both of his fights last year against Jonathan Pearce and Roberto Romero and now he faces a step up in class as he meets Chikadze.
Chikadze has been fighting a better calibre of opponent in recent years and his resume definitely impresses more than Onama’s. he has wins over Cub Swanson, Edson Barbosa, Jamall Emmers and Alex Caceres. Meanwhile, there is no shame in his recent losses to Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen.
We see this as a good opportunity for him to get back on track. Onama should certainly not be underestimated but we are slightly surprised by the odds making Onama favourite. Chikadze has shown he can mix it with some of the best and while Onama may have more levels to go, it is Chikadze that we favour coming into this one.
Prediction: Giga Chikadze to win
