Genoa Preview: Steady Genoa

Under the management of former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, Genoa have, somewhat surprisingly, focused on defensive solidity and strength and it has proved successful, moving well clear of the relegation battle and into the middle-of-the-table.

The home team come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Hellas Verona in their most recent outing at the Marcantonio Bentegodi last weekend. That means the hosts have now suffered just one defeat in their last six matches in Serie A.

Lazio Preview: Struggling Lazio

After losing the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Bodo/Glimt by two goals to nil in the Arctic Circle, Lazio managed to take the second-leg into extra-time with a last-gasp strike to make it 2-0 to the Romans on the night.

They then managed to go 3-0 up and the night and seemed to be heading through before an Andreas Helmerson strike in extra-time took the game to penalties and it was the Norwegians who won a poor and nervy penalty shootout by three goals two at the Stadio Olimpico.

Genoa Team News: Several doubts

Genoa have several injury doubts to deal with ahead of the visit of Lazio this weekend, including Ukraine international attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy as well as West Ham United loanee Maxwel Cornet.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Sabelli, De Winter, Johan Vasquez; Zanoli, Masini, Badelj, Caricol; Miretti, Vitinha; Pinamonti

Unavailable: Balotelli (Out of favour)

Lazio Team News: Isaksen suspended

Denmark international attacker Gustav Isaksen has made himself a key man for Lazio but he is now missing through suspension for the visitors this weekend. Spanish centre-back Patric is also unavailable due to an ankle injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mandas; Marusic, Gigot, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Rovella; Pedro, Dele-Bashiru, Zaccagni; Valentin Castellanos

Unavailable: Patric (Injured), Isaksen (Suspended)

Genoa vs Lazio Prediction

Genoa, as mentioned, have been steady throughout the Vieira era and that has been down to their solid and defensive style of football. They have conceded just 38 goals in 32 games with most of those goals conceded coming before the arrival of Vieira. They now face a Lazio side that have endured a poor run of form in Serie A as well as that UEFA Europa League elimination so they won’t be feeling too confident and siding with Genoa may well be a good value bet for this one.

Genoa vs Lazio Tip: Genoa to win & under 3.5 goals
