Gael Monfils vs Nishesh Basavareddy Prediction

Gael Monfils is enjoying a bright start to 2025 and the veteran Frenchman will now have his eyes firmly set on going all the way in Auckland.

He comes off a dominant win over Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-3 6-1 on Thursday and he will be flying with confidence coming into this semi-final.

He now meets the latest revelation on the ATP Tour, Nishesh Basavareddy. The 19-year-old American has beaten a whole host of experienced campaigners en route to the semis and his win over Alex Michelsen on Thursday will only boost the youngster’s confidence even further.

After losing the first set against his familiar foe, Basavareddy won the second set 6-2 and the third set 6-4 to progress and he will take some stopping based on how he is playing this week. He has knocked out Botic van de Zandschulp, Daniel Altmaier, Francisco Comesana, Alejandro Tabilo and now Michelsen which is a strong set of opponents.

We have a marginal preference for Basavareddy based on the fact he is the underdog, we see very little between the pair based on how they are both performing. In fact, we think the youngster has beaten better quality opposition and has been playing at a higher level this week. We do however edge the total games and over 22.5 is our pick in a match that could well go three sets.

Gael Monfils vs Nishesh Basavareddy Tip: Over 22.5 games
