Gael Monfils vs Borna Gojo prediction

Two-time quarter-finalist Gael Monfils will be looking to roll back the years on his 14th visit to Madrid. 

The 38-year-old started 2025 with a title in Auckland but his switch to clay at Monte Carlo ended in a narrow exit to Andrey Rublev. 

La Monf has an excellent 17-5 record so far this season and while Madrid is generally his weaker Masters 1000 on the dirt, he will expect to despatch qualifier Borna Gojo and tee up a second-round clash with his Monte Carlo conqueror Rublev. 

Gojo is a former world number 72, but an injury-ravaged 2024 has seen him struggling to climb back up the ATP ladder and he has repeatedly stumbled trying to make it into main draws, losing three of three matches on tour.

The 27-year-old did make it through qualifying in Madrid but Monfils will be too strong on this occasion.
