La Monf overcame a first-set drubbing to hit back and beat qualifier Borna Gojo 1-6 6-2 6-4 in the first round but will need to find another gear or two to take down the Russian seventh seed.

Rublev leads the match-up 3-1 with the most recent victory coming via a 6-4 7-6 scoreline in Monte Carlo at the start of this month. 

Indeed, the Russian has won the last three encounters, with Monfils’ solitary success coming in the final in Doha seven years ago.
