Francisco Comesana vs Pedro Martinez prediction

Pedro Martinez has his eyes on a first ever first round win in Madrid. 

The Spaniard has a 0-2 record in the Spanish capital and is featuring in the main draw for the first time since 2022. 

The world number 49 has had a patchy start to the European clay swing despite reaching the semi-finals in Buenos Aires on the dirt back in February. 

The 27-year-old will meet Argentine Comesana for the first time, with the world number 62 spending the majority of 2025 on his favoured surface. 

Most of the South American’s success on the dirt has come in Challengers but the 24-year-old is a player on the rise and the fact he has a flawless 2-0 record against top 10 opponents shows he enjoys the limelight and playing the underdog. 

He won’t be the favourite in this one and that may bring out the best in him, but we are backing Martinez to break his duck and tee up a second-round clash with 13th seed Arthur Fils.
