Francisco Cerundolo vs Joao Fonseca Prediction

What a week it has been for Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo who has been in sparkling form in front of his home fans. He beat his brother in the round of 16 on Wednesday and then he produced an outstanding performance to come from a set down to beat top seed Alexander Zverev in the quarters on Friday. In the semis on Saturday, he came up against in-form Pedro Martinez but he promptly brushed him aside winning 6-2 6-4 and now he comes into the final hoping to do what he couldn’t do in 2021 and win the title.

He faces 18-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca who became the youngster player to ever reach a clay-court final on the ATP Tour after beating Laslo Djere in the semis on Saturday. One feels that this is just one of many records this incredibly talented youngster is going to break over the course of his career based on how it has started.

Prior to the semis, Fonseca beat three Argentines to get to that stage and he appeared to relish playing against them and the crowd. He will have that extra motivation to do the same here in the final also.

Much will depend on how both players settle into this match but it promises to be a cracking game. Cerundolo has been outstanding all week and we just favour him to edge this but it really could go either way. Expect a back and forth match here and we can see this going three sets.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Joao Fonseca Tip: Over 2.5 sets
