Francisco Cerundolo vs Alexander Bublik Prediction
Although he is predominantly a clay-court specialist, Francisco Cerundolo – 31st seed in Melbourne – possesses a game than can adapt to all surfaces, although he is yet to win an ATP Tour title on hard courts, with his three tournament wins having come on clay and grass.
The Argentine's best run at the Australian Open came on debut in 2023, when he reached the third round, while last year saw him bow out in straight sets to Hungary's Fabian Marozsan. The 26-year-old took part in the ASB Classic as preparation for Melboune, but lost in the first round to Roberto Carballes Baena.
As the highest-ranked non-seeded player, Alexander Bublik certainly has a strong chance of progressing here, but this is historically his weakest Grand Slam with the Kazakh having only ever won three main draw Singles matches in Melbourne.
The 27-year-old did reach a career-high ranking of 17 in 224, but that came back in May, and he has only picked up just one Singles victory since the Chengdu Open in September. That form doesn’t bode well for him against an all-courter like Cerundolo, who is fancied to progress.
