Frances Tiafoe vs Yoshihito Nishioka Prediction

Frances Tiafoe has not quite got his season going just yet but the American will be hoping to kick-start his year in Dallas this week. 

He did not have it all his own way against Japan’s Taro Daniel in the first round as it took a deciding set for Tiafoe to eventually emerge as the victor.

He now meets another Japanese player in Yoshihito Nishioka in the round of 16 and this promises to be an interesting encounter between the two.

Yoshihito came through a tough first-round match with Brandon Nakashima as he won 6-4 7-6. It was never completely comfortable for the Japanese number one but he just had the edge in the key moments. 

He will know he has to improve against the more experienced Tiafoe here especially considering that Tiafoe has won three of the four previous meetings between the two on the ATP Tour, Nishioka can take heart from the fact he won their last meeting last year in Atlanta.

There is a little pressure on Tiafoe to get the win here and he will be desperate to do well in his native America. He is not quite at his best right now and it is hard to see him dominating here but we are tipping him just to have enough to progress.
