In the captaincy battle between Erling Haaland (£15.3m) and Mo Salah (£12.8m) which dominated Gameweek 9, it was Salah captainers who came out on top. Whilst the Norwegian drew a blank in Man City’s 2-1 defeat away at Bournemouth, Salah scored the winning goal for Liverpool and recorded 9 FPL points as the Reds overcame Brighton by two goals to one.

Aside from Salah, it was a disappointing week for our selected captain picks. Neither Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) nor Bryan Mbeumo (£7.8m) gained an attacking return, whilst differential pick Matheus Cunha (£6.6m) did at least manage an attacking return, setting up a goal for Wolves in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, accruing 5 FPL points in the process.

Gameweek 11 represents the final round of Premier League fixtures before the third and last international break of the year, so selecting the right FPL captain will be vital. As always, we’ve highlighted three premium picks, along with a differential skipper ahead of Saturday’s 1:30pm deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Mo Salah (£12.8m) vs AVL (H)

Salah continues to return points by the bucketload and is the highest scoring FPL asset right now with 93 points to his name following his latest haul. The Egyptian superstar has now racked up 31 points across the last three gameweeks, scoring a goal in each one with an additional assist thrown in.

Liverpool will take on Aston Villa at Anfield in Gameweek 11 and with Salah already boasting seven goals and five assists this season in the Premier League alone, it would be a surprise if he were to blank against Unai Emery’s side. Therefore, plenty will be eying him up as their captain.

Heung-Min Son (£9.9m) vs IPS (H)

Although a premium price, Son has justified that by recording at least one attacking return in each of the last three Premier League fixtures that have seen him make an appearance. In total, he managed one goal and three assists over the course of those three gameweeks, accumulating 22 FPL points overall.

Ipswich at home stands out as a promising fixture for Son and those who own the Spurs attacker will be seriously considering handing him the armband in Gameweek 11 when you factor in his recent form in the Premier League

Josko Gvardiol (£6.2m) vs BHA (a)

He may be a defender, but Gvardiol has been registering attacking returns like a seasoned forward of late, delighting his FPL ownership. Since the start of Gameweek 6, Gvardiol has found the net three times in the Premier League for Man City, accruing 26 FPL points in five gameweeks, despite being part of a backline who kept just one clean sheet in that period.

After losing against Bournemouth, the pressure is on Man City to bounce back with immediate effect vs Brighton, who were beaten last time out by Liverpool. Gvardiol should be afforded license to push forward to go alongside his defensive duties and whilst a big gamble, could prove an inspired fantasy captain for Gameweek 11.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Yoane Wissa (£6.0m) vs BOU (H)

Another who has consistently performed well from an FPL perspective when on the pitch for Brentford and not injured. Five of Wissa’s six attacking returns recorded so far in the 2024-25 Premier League have come at home, where Brentford will be playing in Gameweek 11 as Ipswich travel to the capital.

In just six starts this campaign, the 28-year-old striker has racked up four goals and two assists, as well as 40 fantasy points. His ownership is currently under 6% at the time of writing and he offers substantial differential appeal when you consider the lack of Wissa owners among the FPL community compared to his Brentford teammate Bryan Mbeumo.
