VENEZUELA PREVIEW: PUTTING IT RIGHT
Coached by former Argentina U20 and U23 manager Fernando Batista, Venezuela enjoyed a much-improved major tournament this summer as they reached the quarter-finals of the CONMEBOL Copa America before losing to Canada on penalties.
In qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, they have been relatively impressive but the Venezuelans now come into this one on the back of being hammered by four goals to nil in the tricky conditions of La Paz against Bolivia.
URUGUAY PREVIEW: FINDING CONSISTENCY
Former Leeds United and Olympique de Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa, two-time world champions Uruguay reached the semi-finals of this summer’s CONMEBOL Copa America and they have been much-improved in the last 12 months or so.
In a game that was overshadowed by the international retirement of Inter Miami forward Luis Suarez the other day in Montevideo, Uruguay were held to a frustrating goalless draw against Paraguay the other day.
VENEZUELA TEAM NEWS: CHANGES MAY BE NEEDED
Venezuela have had quite a strong 12-18 months or so but there is a possibility that Fernando Batista makes a few changes after they were annihilated the other day.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Rafael Romo; Jhon Murillo, Nahuel Ferraresi, Yordan Osorio, Jon Aramburu, Miguel Navarro; Telasco Segovia, Jose Martinez, Daniel Pereira; Salomon Rondon, Jhoanner Cadiz

URUGUAY TEAM NEWS: A NEW ERA
Luis Suarez was not a key cog of the Marcelo Bielsa era anyway but the former Liverpool and Barcelona forward is the only enforced change from the other day with his retirement.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Sergio Rochet; Nahitan Nandez, Nicolas Marichal, Sebastian Caceres, Lucas Olaza; Fede Valverde, Manuel Ugarte, Brian Rodriguez; Facundo Pellistri, Cristian Olivera, Maximiliano Araujo

VENEZUELA VS URUGUAY PREDICTION
Venezuela need to bounce back. Like a couple of the other middling sides in South America, they do tend to rely on a strong defence with a few moments in attack but up against a Uruguay side that will be so open as ever under Marcelo Bielsa, that should provide some space for them. As a result, we could get a surprisingly entertaining clash in Caracas this week with both teams scoring potentially a good bet.
