UAE begun this third round of AFC qualifying in the ideal way, defeating Qatar 1-3 after a brilliant second-half comeback. Trailing 1-0 at the break, UAE were a different team in the second half, racking up three goals without reply. However, they failed to follow it up the game after, coming out the wrong end of a close encounter with Iran.
Despite UAE’s best efforts, Iran shut them out and showed why they are one of the favourites to qualify from Group A with an automatic place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, winning 0-1 in Al Ain.
KOREA DPR PREVIEW: WORK TO DO IF THEY ARE TO TROUBLE TOP TWO
Of a possible six points up for grabs so far, Korea DPR have only managed to pick up one, with a gap already fast developing between themselves and the top two. After losing 1-0 against Uzbekistan, Korea DPR bounced back well, recording their hard-earned point in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Qatar.
Another tough encounter awaits here for Korea DPR and losing would be a huge blow to their chances and potentially leave them looking at a third or fourth-place finish in Group A as their most realistic route to World Cup qualification.
