PERU PREVIEW: REASONS TO WORRY

Jorge Fossati replaced now Chile boss Ricardo Gareca at the beginning of this year and it has been a difficult time in charge of the Peruvians after they endured a difficult 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America this summer.

The Peruvians were knocked out in the group stages without scoring a single goal after they started with a 0-0 draw against Ricardo Gareca’s Chileans before then losing 1-0 to Canada and 2-0 to eventual winners Argentina.

COLOMBIA PREVIEW: THE UNBEATEN RUN

The last 18 months or so have been extremely impressive for Colombia as they put together a long unbeaten run of form which was ended after extra-time of the CONMEBOL Copa America final against Argentina in the summer with a 112th minute winner from Lautaro Martinez.

Prior to that defeat, Colombia were unbeaten in 28 matches since they lost to Argentina in February 2022. In that 28-match unbeaten run of form, they played against the likes of Germany, Uruguay on two occasions, Brazil on two occasions and Spain.

PERU VS COLOMBIA PREDICTION

Peru are, as it stands, the weakest side in South America, despite Bolivia usually taking that crown. Peru have collected just two points from six matches at the start of this 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. They now face a Colombian side that are unbeaten in 29 matches inside 90 minutes, excluding their extra-time loss, so will be extremely confident of continuing their fine recent record with a victory here.
