With the expanded 48-team 2026 FIFA World Cup, Paraguay will be extremely disappointed to miss out and they are in a real scrap to even finish in the playoff place as they now face a really underwhelming Brazilian side this week.

PARAGUAY PREVIEW: EMERGING TALENT

With a group of emerging Paraguayan talent such as Julio Enciso and Diego Gomez to go alongside experienced attackers like Miguel Almiron, there will be a frustration to have managed just one win in their opening seven qualifying matches.

The Paraguayans do come into this one on the back of a goalless draw against Uruguay in Montevideo in a game that was second fiddle to the international retirement of Uruguay legend Luis Suarez.

BRAZIL PREVIEW: LACKING QUALITY

Dorival Junior remains in charge of the Brazilian team but the experienced Selecao coach does have the feel of someone simply in interim charge of the team before a bigger name takes over ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Brazilians will qualify for the tournament but they are doing so in an extremely unconvincing manner and that did continue the other day as they edged past Ecuador by a goal to nil with yet another underwhelming performance.

PARAGUAY TEAM NEWS: FINDING A FORMULA

As mentioned, there is actually a bit of a task for Paraguay to find a balance in attacking positions to support Tonny Sanabria with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Julio Enciso.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Gatito Fernandez; Gustavo Velasquez, Gustavo Gomez, Omar Alderete, Junior Alonso; Cubas, Diego Gomez; Julio Enciso, Damian Bobadilla, Miguel Almiron; Tonny Sanabria

BRAZIL TEAM NEWS: FINDING A SPARK

There is a lack of fluency and spark to the Brazilians at the moment, despite being able to name an all-Real Madrid front three of Vinicius Junior, Endrick and Rodrygo.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Guilherme Arana; Andre, Bruno Guimaraes; Luis Henrique, Lucas Paqueta, Vinicius Junior; Rodrygo

PARAGUAY VS BRAZIL PREDICTION

Despite having the emerging talent in attack, Paraguay have headed into this September international break clearly to shut down teams of a better standard than them, as they did well with that 0-0 draw against Uruguay the other day. Brazil lack an incision and precision that makes them quite unenjoyable to watch so, especially away from home, that is expected to continue and this one, even with the Selecao as favourites, is expected to be a low-scoring encounter.
