THE PREDICTION
Stephen Kenny’s reign as the manager of Ireland has been an odd one. His intent on implementing a modern and progressive, attacking style of play has been well-documented but an incredibly poor start in terms of results left him on the edge. The Irish did pick up last month, though, with a 3-0 thumping of Azerbaijan and then a 4-0 thumping of next year’s hosts Qatar. They now come up against a Portugal side that they led until the dying moments a couple of months ago before a Cristiano Ronaldo brace left the Irish feeling gutted. Portugal need to win this one to keep in touch with Serbia. Whilst it is expected to be a low-scoring affair, it is still the Portuguese that are expected to come out on top.
