COLOMBIA PREVIEW: THE IMPRESSIVE COLOMBIANS
Ahead of facing Argentina in the final of the CONMEBOL Copa America and eventually losing the game after extra-time, Colombia were on a 28-match unbeaten run of form and that, inside 90 minutes, has technically now been extended to 30 matches.
They come into this one on the back of a relatively frustrating 1-1 draw with Peru the other day at Estadio Nacional de Lima. Alexandre Callens opened the scoring after 68 minutes before a late equalising goal from Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.
ARGENTINA PREVIEW: WINNERS OF ARGENTINA
Lionel Scaloni’s Argentinians were crowned champions of South America this summer to back up winning the tournament in 2021 and, in the meantime, they went and won the 2022 FIFA World Cup to really show an era of dominance.
In this international break, Argentina are dealing with the international retirement of Angel Di Maria but that hasn’t stopped their winning machine as they defeated Chile by three goals to nil with strikes from Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala.
COLOMBIA TEAM NEWS: MIDFIELD ADJUSTMENTS
Jefferson Lerma has developed into a key cog in this Colombian midfielder but the Crystal Palace midfielder remains an injury concern for the visit of Argentina.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Camilo Vargas; Daniel Munoz, Carlos Cuesta, Jhon Lucumi, Johan Mojica; Ricard Rios, Jefferson Lerma, Jhon Arias; Luis Sinisterra, Jhon Cordona, Luis Diaz
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Jefferson Lerma (Injured)
ARGENTINA TEAM NEWS: ATTACKING ADJUSTMENTS
New Juventus signing Nicolas Gonzalez has picked up an injury during this international break so adjustments have to be made with no Lionel Messi in this squad either.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Emiliano Martinez; Otamendi, Romero, L. Martinez; Nahuel Molina, De Paul, Fernandez, Mac Allister, Marcos Acuna; Julian Alvarez, Lautaro Martinez
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Gonzalez (Injured)
COLOMBIA VS ARGENTINA PREDICTION
This is a really intriguing clash. The final of the CONMEBOL Copa America this summer was not a good game for the neutral but, as is so often the case in big games at major tournaments, was simply decided by a moment. Both sides set up well defensively to allow an array of attacking talent to thrive and that could well be the case again here with the attackers stifled by strong defences. As a result, a lower scoring encounter would seem quite likely for this one.
COLOMBIA VS ARGENTINA TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
