History was made over the winter as the 2022 FIFA World Cup was won by Lionel Messi and Argentina. Messi has been a magnificent part of football and, in particular, the UEFA Champions League for many years.

As the club season kicks back into gear after its unusual extended break, this is a look at other pieces of history. This is a list of the players to have hit the most hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League.

As ever, Leo Messi is at the top of a UEFA Champions League goal scoring list and, as ever, he is joined by his perceived rival over the last decade and a half in Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo’s only hat-trick at Juve came in their come-from-behind Round of 16 victory against Atletico Madrid.

Robert Lewandowski is the only player to have scored a hat-trick for three different clubs in UEFA Champions League history and the Polish forward will not believe he is finished on six.
