THE PREDICTION

It’s been something of a strange week for Bayern, who made headlines for the wrong reasons when a near full-strength team were surprisingly thrashed 5-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach in the DFB-Pokal. They responded well enough by hitting five past Union Berlin in the Bundesliga over the weekend though, and there have been no such blips in the Champions League where they have a perfect record of three wins from three so far, with 12 goals scored and none conceded. Benfica did well to hold out for 70 minutes against the German giants a couple of weeks ago but finally succumbed to the pressure and it’s fair to say that, on the balance of things, they didn’t deserve to lose 0-4. Bayern’s recent domestic slip-up may offer them some hope, but you would imagine that Julian Nagelsmann will be warning his side against any further complacency so the likelihood is that the hosts will clinch the three points here.
