THE LOWDOWN

FEYENOORD

Although Feyenoord twice took the lead away to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in their second match of the Champions League group stage, they failed to make the most of it on both occasions and were punished. Lapses in concentration either side of half-time ultimately cost them as Atletico took a 3-2 lead, which they held until full time. That defeat leaves Feyenoord on three points when factoring in their win over Celtic last month.

Domestically, Feyenoord remain as strong and as free-scoring as ever, their offensive play remaining the most exciting aspect about them under Arne Slot. Both their group fixtures so far have seen them score twice and you’d expect them to create plenty of chances here against Lazio. Their backline will need to tighten up though compared to what we saw in Madrid.

LAZIO

Once again, Lazio’s never-say-die attitude and drive saw them rewarded late on in Europe. After goalkeeper Ivan Provedal grabbed them a point with a last-gasp header against Atletico Madrid, this time veteran winger Pedro was the hero. The Spaniard scoring deep into second half stoppage time away at Celtic as Lazio came from behind to win at Parkhead, their first victory in Group E.

Following those two fixtures Lazio are now back on the road, this time to the Netherlands where Feyenoord await. They make the journey on the back of a commanding 0-2 win over Sassuolo in Serie A on Saturday, their third consecutive victory in all competitions, ensuring that confidence remains extremely high within the Lazio camp leading into this one.

THE TEAM NEWS

FEYENOORD

Feyenoord have been dealt a blow by the news that Yankuba Minteh’s hamstring injury sustained against Vitesse at the weekend, which will keep him out until after the next international break. Luka Ivanusec is also missing due to an injured ankle and centre-back Gernot Trauner joins them on the sidelines. Despite an ankle problem of his own though, Santiago Gimenez is expected to make his long-awaited first Champions League appearance for Feyenoord following a two-match suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Bijlow; Nieuwkoop, Geertruida, Hancko, Hartman; Wieffer, Q. Timber; Paixao, Stengs, Jahanbakhsh; Gimenez

UNAVAILABLE: Ivanusec (Injured), Minteh (hamstring)

QUESTIONABLE: Gimenez (Fitness), Trauner (Injured)

LAZIO

As it stands, Lazio are at full-strength for the trip to Feyenoord, which serves as a welcome boost for them. Daichi Kamada and Matteo Guendouzi are fighting for a starting place in central midfielder, whilst Mattia Zaccagni should come in for Pedro. Star striker Ciro Immobile is certain to play after being rested against Sassuolo.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Casale, Romagnoli, Hysaj; Kamada, Vecino, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni

THE PREDICTION

Both these two clubs are well-placed in Group E, although Feyenoord trail Lazio by a point. However, Arne Slot’s side won their only other home fixture so far against Celtic and will be expected to heap significant attacking pressure on Lazio. The Italians have proven their mettle defensively over the course of the group stage though and late goals underline their high fitness levels. But in what is one of their biggest tests vs a team who have won eight of their last nine in all competitions, the shrewd move is to back Feyenoord via the safety of the draw no bet market.
