THE PREDICTION
Although Club Brugge boast home advantage in this first-leg, they will be well aware of the dangers Benfica pose going forward and are likely to prioritise the defensive stability that saw them rack up five clean sheets in six Group B fixtures. The visitors though are no doubt too smart to fall into the trap of pushing too many bodies forward and getting caught on the counter-attack, they themselves will probably play conservatively, knowing that home advantage will be theirs in the second-leg.
It’s also important to take into account the loss of Enzo Fernandez from the Benfica side, after the Argentinian international and reigning World Cup champion joined Chelsea in January. Without Fernandez, the Benfica midfield could be lacking in creativity a tad which won’t help them from an attacking perspective. Therefore, expect a low-scoring first leg and back under 2.5 goals over 90 minutes.
