THE LOWDOWN

BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Borussia Dortmund come into this one on the back of an impressive victory away to Werder Bremen in their most recent outing, last weekend. Donyell Malen opened the scoring after 21 minutes before Jadon Sancho doubled the lead around 15 minutes later. Marcel Sabitzer was sent off but Dortmund held off Werder, despite Justin Njinmah getting a goal back in the 70th minute.

The hosts have been unconvincing throughout this season and there is a bit of pressure on Edin Terzic as they battle it out with RB Leipzig for a place in the top four, some 20 points off league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. They arguably had the worse of it in the first-leg of this tie, too, in Eindhoven.

PSV

Under the management of former Borussia Dortmund boss Peter Bosz, PSV Eindhoven have enjoyed a magnificent campaign. In the Eredivisie, they won each of their opening 17 matches in the first-half of the campaign and they remain unbeaten after 25 matches of the 2023/24 campaign, sitting ten points clear of Feyenoord at the top-of-the-table.

PSV come into this one on the back of a slender but impressive 1-0 defeat of high-flying Go Ahead Eagles in their most recent outing, at the weekend. Sergino Dest scored the only goal of the game after ten minutes at De Adelaarshorst and PSV managed to hold on for all three points, despite Armando Obispo’s red card late in the second-half.

THE PREDICTION

There is a likelihood that the winner of this tie will be viewed as the ‘weakest’ team in the quarter-finals of the competition next month. Borussia Dortmund will believe their home advantage has presented them with an excellent opportunity but PSV will go to Germany with abundance of quality and genuine confidence. This is an open tie and could well be, as a result, one of the more entertaining second-legs with both teams scoring seeming quite likely.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
