THE LOWDOWN
ATLETICO MADRID
Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone were left extremely frustrated by Celtic come the conclusion of their first clash in this season’s Champions League group stage. Twice the Spaniards were forced to come from behind to eventually take a point and they did so having had central midfielder Rodrigo De Paul sent off.
It’s been a rough weekend for Atletico, who suffered only their second defeat in La Liga this campaign, losing 2-1 to Las Palmas and giving Barcelona the opportunity to leapfrog them in the table. They are also no longer top of their Champions League group, having given that up to Dutch champions Feyenoord.
CELTIC
Celtic can be proud of their most recent performance against Atletico Madrid, which saw them hold the Spanish giants to a draw in Scotland, getting them off the mark in Group E. The only disappointment will be the fact that they led twice at home, but couldn’t finish the job against a very good side, but a side who at one stage were reduced to ten men late in the game.
Although they remain dominant in the league, Celtic have loads to do if they are to have any hope of finishing inside the top two of Group E and you could argue that this is realistically a must-win match for the Scottish champions with four points already between them and second-placed Feyenoord, whom Celtic host in the final round of group fixtures.
THE TEAM NEWS
ATLETICO MADRID
Following defeat at the weekend, Simeone will have to shift his pack with Rodrigo De Paul suspended following his red card at Parkhead. Marcos Llorente is likely to replace him in centre-midfield in a 3-5-2 formation. There could also be a change at centre-back with Jose Gimenez pushing hard for a starting birth.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Oblak; Savic, Gimenez, Hermoso; Molina; Llorente, Koko, Niguez, Riquelme; Griezmann, Morata
UNAVAILABLE: De Paul (Suspended), Lemar (Injured), Depay (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
CELTIC
David Turnbull is expected to get the nod to play in central midfield alongside Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley due to the injuries to both Liel Abada and Reo Hatate. Alastair Johnson is fit and should start at right-back, whilst Nat Phillips will likely miss out in favour of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales in central defence.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Hart; A Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor; O'Riley, McGregor, Turnbull; Palma, Furuhashi, Maeda
UNAVAILABLE: Welsh (Injured), Abada (Injured), Hatate (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
Celtic will travel to Spain with belief that they can cause an upset, but failing to win at Parkhead is likely to have only galvanised Atletico Madrid, who have a point to prove following their shock loss at the weekend. Such a result will have only fired up the hosts leading into this game and with a duo as deadly as Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata leading the line on home territory, Atletico should ultimately overwhelm the Celtic backline and end up getting the job done.
TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN
