THE LOWDOWN
VILLARREAL
After a disappointing start to the campaign, Villarreal have already moved on from their manager, Quique Setien, replacing him with former Huesca boss, Pacheta. The Yellow Submarine had a difficult summer transfer window in which they sold the likes of both Pau Torres and Samu Chukwueze, as they seem destined to drift down La Liga.
They did earn a much-needed 1-0 victory at home to Stade Rennais in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League in midweek. That was Pacheta’s second win during his tenure since he won his opening match. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table with just two Liga wins in eight games.
LAS PALMAS
Under the management of former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, Las Palmas gained automatic promotion back to La Liga last season, finishing as runners’ up behind Granada. The Canary Islanders are expected to be strugglers throughout the campaign but they have perhaps started even slower than was anticipated.
In their opening six matches of the campaign, Las Palmas won one game and managed to score just two goals. However, they come into this on the back of an impressive 2-1 win at home to Celta Vigo in their most recent outing, last week, which was a victory that means they begin the weekend sitting outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.
THE TEAM NEWS
VILLARREAL
Pacheta will be without several key players for this weekend with injuries to Gerard and Juan Foyth, combined with the suspension to Alex Baena, providing a major headache.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Jorgensen; Femenia, Albiol, Gabbia, Alfonso; Morales, Parejo, Capoue, Pino; Brereton Diaz, Sorloth
UNAVAILABLE: Baena (Suspended), Foyth (Injured), Suarez (Injured), Gerard (Injured), Coquelin (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
LAS PALMAS
Julian Araujo has returned from injury but Pimienta remains without some key players, such as Alberto Moleiro and Sandro Ramirez for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Valles; Araujo, Suarez, Marmol, Cardona; Munir, Munoz, Rodriguez, Loiodice, Pejino; Kaba
UNAVAILABLE: Mfulu (Injured), Sandro (Injured), Benito Ramirez (Injured), Moleiro (Injured), Gonzalez (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
The two teams begin this weekend sitting level on points and only separated by goal difference. Villarreal have been really poor, though, even despite that 1-0 victory at home to Rennes the other day. The home team’s fluency has been an issue, having scored more than one goal in a game on just two occasions in their ten matches so far this season across all competitions. Las Palmas did manage a victory in their most recent outing but four goals scored in eight games means this one is unlikely to be a thriller.
