THE LOWDOWN

VALENCIA

Valencia have had another controversial summer of supporter unrest and protest as Peter Lim remains in charge of the club and they continue to be essentially asset stripped. The Valencians have lost several key players on permanent deals, such as Yunus Musah, and their outgoings may not end there with Chelsea reportedly keen on goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Despite that, though, Ruben Baraja has been able to maintain the same sort of form that allowed Valencia to narrowly escape relegation last season and they have remarkably started with back-to-back victories. Firstly they defeated Sevilla in Seville by two goals to one and then they came through a tough contest against Las Palmas, with Pepelu scoring a 73rd minute penalty to give them all three points at home to newly-promoted opposition.

OSASUNA

Things may be starting to turn for the worse for Osasuna. After their surprise qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and then being kicked out but reinstated over the summer, the fuss may not have been worth it as they were beaten 2-1 by Club Brugge in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round tie in Pamplona during the week.

Jagoba Arrasate, who was heavily critical of Chimy Avila last week after he was sent off for a reckless tackle, saw Chimy Avila score an equaliser for Osasuna in that game against Ronny Deila’s Belgians but they still went on to lose. That followed a 2-0 defeat at home to Athletic, who they had the wood over last season, and there will be slight frustrations heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.

THE TEAM NEWS

VALENCIA

Valencia have a depleted squad but Ruben Baraja’s side could welcome back Marcos Andre into the squad this weekend at Mestalla as they host Osasuna.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Mamardashvili; Correia, Gabriel, Ozkacar, Gaya; Perez, Diakhaby, Pepelu, Lopez; Duro, Almeida

UNAVAILABLE: Mari (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Marcos Andre (Injured)

OSASUNA

As mentioned, Osasuna will be without Chimy Avila for this weekend following his red card last weekend and they are also without injured Darko Brasanac still.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Herrera; Pena, Catena, David Garcia, Mojica; Moncayola, Torro, Oroz; R.Garcia, Budimir, Gomez

UNAVAILABLE: Avila (Suspended), Brasanac (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

With this match taking place at Mestalla, there is a remarkable opportunity for Valencia, who were one of the favourites for La Liga relegation this season, to begin with three successive victyories. Whils both of their opening wins can be dismissed in some manner, they are already on a precious six points which takes them closer to survival than they would have imagined. Osasuna have the second-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round tie with Club Brugge in Belgium coming up so the Pamplona club could well be distracted and, regardless of the match result, a low-scoring encounter is in prospect.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
