THE LOWDOWN

VALENCIA

The ownership of Peter Lim has seen a giant of Spanish football, Valencia, fall into what appears to be an inevitable spiral towards relegation to the second-tier. They narrowly avoided that fate on the final day of last year and despite Ruben Baraja leading the side into back-to-back wins at the start of this campaign, they look certain to struggle once again.

Valencia’s most recent outing was a 1-1 draw in the Balearic Islands away to Real Mallorca a couple of weeks ago, prior to the international break. They have now managed just one win since those opening two victories with that win coming fairly strangely and anomalously against Atletico Madrid at Mestalla, running it 3-0 victors.

CADIZ

Following promotion to the top-flight back in 2019, Cadiz have consistently defied the odds and general expectations by avoiding relegation season upon season. They narrowly survived on the final day of the campaign last year in what was a competitive relegation battle down at the bottom end of La Liga.

Now, still under the management of Sergio, they are still expected to remain in a battle against the drop. The Andalusians began with a 1-0 win at home to newly-promoted Alaves but have since managed just one victory in their last eight matches, leaving them sitting in the bottom-half of the table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

THE TEAM NEWS

VALENCIA

Valencia will be without three key defenders for this weekend as Thierry Correia, Mouctar Diakhaby and Jose Luis Gaya all unavailable against Cadiz.

UNAVAILABLE: Correia (Injured), Diakhaby (Injured), Gaya (Injured), Jesus Vazquez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Canos (Injured), Mari (Injured)

CADIZ

Cadiz are without a couple of key suspended players, such as Darwin Machis and Ruben Alcaraz, as well as the likes of injured Fede and Roger Marti.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Ledesma; Carcelen, Jorge Mere, Fali, J.Hernandez; Alejo, Escalante, Navarro, Sobrino; Ramos, Gomez

UNAVAILABLE: Darwin Machis (Suspended), Alcaraz (Suspended), Marti (Injured), L.Hernandez (Injured), Fede (Injured), Ocampo (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides narrowly avoided relegation last year and are both expecting to face a struggle, once again, this season. Valencia have been impressive, generally, since Ruben Baraja’s appointment and they have been able to grind out results, especially at Mestalla. Given that, as well as the plethora of injuries and suspensions that Cadiz are having to deal with, a fairly tough to watch and low-scoring home win would appear a good value bet.

TIP: VALENCIA TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
