THE LOWDOWN
VALENCIA
Off-field issues remain and there are ongoing protests against the way in which Valencia as a club has been run by Peter Lim. Despite that, though, the Valencians have remained a La Liga side but that status could well be lost this season. After needing three managers and a final day escape to avoid relegation last season, they have once again lost players this summer without much in the way of incomings.
They, under the management of Ruben Baraja, did begin how they left off last season with some impressive results. They defeated Sevilla in Seville on the opening day of the season by two goals to one before defeating newly-promoted Las Palmas with a late Pepelu penalty at Mestalla a week later. Since then, though, they have suffered back-to-back to nil defeats against Osasuna and Alaves respectively.
ATLETICO MADRID
After the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, it had seemed like it would be the final few months if Diego Simeone’s long reign in charge of Los Rojiblancos. However, Atletico were outstanding for much of the second-half of the campaign playing a more open and attacking style of football that they have continued into the 2023/24 season and, after four matches, they are La Liga’s top scorers.
They have played just three matches so far this season because their game against Sevilla was postponed due to a heavy rain forecast. They hammered Rayo Vallecano by seven goals to nil a few weeks ago, which followed on from collecting four points against Real Betis and Granada in their opening two matches of the season.

ATLETICO MADRID
Diego Simeone has to put up with some key injuries throughout the spine of his team as Jose Maria Gimenez, Koke and Memphis Depay are still injured for this one.
PREDICTED XI (5-3-2): Oblak; Molina, Savic, Witsel, Hermoso, Azpilicueta; De Paul, Barrios, Saul; Griezmann, Morata

THE PREDICTION
These are two of Spain’s more historically famous and strong sides but, on paper and in reality, the squads are very far apart. Valencia are going to face a long, hard battle against relegation, once again, and without the likes of Samuel Lino and Yunus Musah, it is a battle they may not win. Atletico will believe they can topple Barcelona this season and they have started in that manner. An away win is the expected outcome of this one on Saturday afternoon.
TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN
