THE LOWDOWN

SEVILLA

Sevilla come into this one on the back of a continuation of their dreadful 2023/24 campaign as they conceded a 96th minute winner to Lens, losing by two goals to one and finishing bottom of their UEFA Champions League group, thus now unable to defend their UEFA Europa League title which they won last season.

Diego Alonso replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar in early October but the Andalusians’ form has got even worse. Sevilla have managed just four victories in their 24 matches across all competitions so far this season with two of those wins coming against lower league opposition in Quintanar and Atletico Astorga in the Copa del Rey.

GETAFE

Last weekend, Jose Bordalas led his Getafe side to a typically Jose Bordalas victory over a Valencia team that he built up a rivalry with when he was first in charge of Getafe before continuing that rivalry but from in charge of Valencia. That 1-0 victory has continued their impressive run of form as they push into the top-half of the table.

The Madrid-based club begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half with just four defeats in their 16 matches so far this season in La Liga. They come into this one on the back of a run of just one defeat in their last 12 games across all competitions with that one loss coming against a similarly in form side Las Palmas.

THE TEAM NEWS

THE PREDICTION

Getafe are a determined and ruthlessly efficient side that have made themselves very difficult to beat once again under Bordalas – not a team you want to be facing desperate for victory in front of a hostile crowd and with a plethora of injuries and availability concerns. This one looks like it has all the makings of Diego Alonso’s final game in charge of the home team and a low-scoring victory bet in favour of Getafe looks the way to go for this one.
