REAL MADRID PREVIEW: GALACTICOS AGAIN IN SO MANY WAYS

Like in the mid-to-late-2000s, Real Madrid have embarked upon a ‘galacticos’ project and, like in the mid-to-late-2000s, there are reasons to believe Los Blancos are not going to be able to make it work with genuine systematic issues of too many of their absolute best players often finding the exact same space on the pitch.

The lack of cohesion was shown at times as they defeated Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup a couple of weeks ago and they have started this season with draws in the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands against Real Mallorca and Las Palmas respectively, either side of an unconvincing 3-0 defeat of Real Valladolid at the Bernabeu which involved two late goals.

REAL BETIS PREVIEW: THE EXPERIENCE OF BETIS AND MANUEL PELLEGRINI

Former Malaga, Manchester City, Real Madrid and West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has put together an experienced squad full of well known and recognisable players but the Andalusians do often play with an energy of something more youthful – and they are going to need that after a busy midweek.

They hammered Ukrainian Premier League side Krvybas Kyryvi in the second-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round tie, completing a 5-0 aggregate victory with a 3-0 win at the Benito Villamarin in midweek. In La Liga, Betis have started the season with a 1-1 draw against Girona at home and then a goalless draw with Alaves in the Basque Country.

REAL MADRID VS REAL BETIS PREDICTION

Real Madrid have not convinced just yet. The absence of Jude Bellingham should allow the space for Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe to find some cohesion and patterns of play. Real Betis have a small-ish squad made smaller by the surprise departures of Nabil Fekir and Ayoze Perez and they have also just been playing in Europe, too. So, despite the fact there are issues to deal with, Madrid should still come out on top at the Bernabeu.

REAL MADRID VS REAL BETIS TIP: REAL MADRID TO WIN
