This is one of the rearranged games from during the earlier international breaks and represents a major opportunity for Carlo Ancelotti’s Los Blancos to put their stamp on the league title race. Their 2-1 win at home to Sevilla at the weekend helped take advantage of Real Sociedad losing to Espanyol and a victory in this one would see them move seven points clear at the top-of-the-table. Athletic, under Marcelino, have been consistently stubborn with the occasional flourish and attacking intent but mid-table mediocrity appears to be the limit. Real Madrid should win this one but it might not be overly pretty.
