THE LOWDOWN

OSASUNA

Last season of reaching the Copa del Rey final and then qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League by finishing seventh was always going to be difficult to live up to but it has still been an underwhelming campaign from Osasuna and that continued in midweek as they were beaten 2-0 by Real Sociedad in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.

The Pamplona-based club begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table with six victories, four draws and nine defeats in their 19 matches so far this season. They have, though, suffered just one defeat in their last five La Liga matches after a 1-0 defeat of bottom-of-the-table Almeria to kick off 2024.

GETAFE

Under the management of Jose Bordalas, who returned to the Coliseum last March, Getafe are aiming to return to European football next season with the potential of a top seven finish. The capital city club were beaten 3-1 by Sevilla in the Copa del Rey in midweek but have remained strong in La Liga.

In the league, Getafe have suffered just two defeats in their last 13 matches with one of those losses coming against Rayo Vallecano when they had gone down to eight men after red cards were given to Mason Greenwood, Juanmi Latasa and Damian Suarez. Their only other defeat in that run also came in a game where they had been reduced by a red card as Las Palmas defeated them in December.

THE TEAM NEWS

OSASUNA

Jago Arrasate has the blessing of a rarity with no injury or suspension concerns so Osasuna will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Herrera; Areso, Catena, David Garcia, Pena; Moncayola, Munoz, Oroz; Avila, Budimir, Gomez

GETAFE

Jaime Mata has joined Damian Suarez and Juanmi Latasa’s suspended list but forward Mason Greenwood has returned from his ban for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Soria; Alderete, Djene, Alvarez, Rico; Greenwood, Maksimovic, Milla, Alena; Mayoral, Unal

UNAVAILABLE: Suarez (Suspended), Latasa (Suspended), Mata (Suspended), Arambarri (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

These two teams sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table in La Liga. Osasuna and Getafe have both been quite reactive and defensive this season with the two teams combining for just 46 goals between them. However, there is a team that appear a lot more upwardly mobile than their opposition with Osasuna’s recent stubborn form a bit flattering, whilst Jose Bordalas and Getafe are intent on a top seven finish. Regardless of the outcome, though, a low-scoring affair is to be expected.
