LEGANES PREVIEW: LEGA ON THE RISE

At the start of last season, former Deportivo La Coruna coach 39-year-old Borja Jimenez, who has never played professional football and began his coaching career at the age of just 21, took charge of Leganes and he managed to propel Los pepineros into the top-flight as second division champions in his first season in charge.

They put in an excellent performance in Pamplona at El Sadar last weekend against an Osasuna side that are getting to grips with Vicente Moreno’s reign. Leganes took the lead early on via defender Juan Cruz in the first-half before Juan Soriano scored an own goal late on to level things up.

LAS PALMAS PREVIEW: STRONG START FOR LAS PALMAS

Former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta took charge of Las Palmas and led them to the top-flight a couple of years ago before comfortably keeping them up last season. He then departed for Sevilla over the summer and Las Palmas’ first game of the campaign was, almost inevitably, Sevilla travelling to the Canary Islands.

In Gran Canaria last weekend, Las Palmas, after a very busy summer transfer window, went behind to an Alex Suarez own goal before Tanguy Nianzou scored an own goal to level things when Oli McBurnie thought he had a La Liga debut goal. Juanlu Sanchez put Sevilla back ahead before Sandro Ramirez then equalised for Las Palmas in the 71st minute.

LEGANES TEAM NEWS: NO INJURY ISSUES

The home team come into this weekend’s clash able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend with no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for the visit of Las Palmas.

Borja Jimenez’ preferred system is a 4-2-3-1 system and they were quite enterprising and attacking against Osasuna so will once again be the same this time around.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Juan Soriano; Rosier, Aritz Arambarri, Sergio Gonzalez, Javi Hernandez; Brasanac, Neyou; Juan Cruz, Cisse, Enric Franquesa; Miguel de la Fuente

LAS PALMAS TEAM NEWS: UNCHANGED CANARIANS

As mentioned, Las Palmas have enjoyed an impressive and big summer transfer window but one of their new signings, Adnan Januzaj, remains unavailable for this weekend.

The Belgium international is joined on the sidelines by former Ajax man Daley Sinkgraven but Las Palmas will be expected to remain unchanged for this one after no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Cillessen; Park, Alex Suarez, Mika Marmol, Alex Munoz; Loiodice, Kirian Rodriguez; Jaime Mata, Javi Munoz, Alberto Moleiro; McBurnie

UNAVAILABLE: Sinkgraven (Injured), Januzaj (Injured)

LEGANES VS LAS PALMAS PREDICTION

Not many would usually pick out Leganes and Las Palmas to put on a thriller before the season but there is reason to believe that this one could be enjoyable to watch for the neutral. Leganes, for example, have a proactive coach and showed that against Osasuna, whilst the slight adaptation to a 4-2-3-1 with more attacking threat and cutting edge for Las Palmas produced a fun game against Sevilla so both teams scoring might actually be a good bet for this one.
