THE LOWDOWN
LAS PALMAS
Under the management of Garcia Pimienta, Las Palmas are seeking to play in the classic stereotype of Canary Islanders; the ‘Brazilians’ of Spanish football, as they are often referred to. They play a fluent, albeit typically modern day Spanish low-scoring, style and that helped them gain automatic promotion back to the top-flight last season, finishing second in the Segunda behind Granada.
The Canary Islanders began this season with a relatively frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Real Mallorca on the opening day of the campaign before an even more frustrating result away to Valencia. They edged the game in terms of the play but Valencia’s new signing, Pepelu, scored a penalty just after the 70-minute mark to give the Valencians all three points.
REAL SOCIEDAD
In the last few seasons, Real Sociedad have started the campaign extremely well before tailing off and missing out on the top four. Last season they managed to hold on to fourth spot but have had to endure a difficult and fairly quiet summer which could leave them short when they have to compete at tip level in two competitions later this calendar year.
Imanol Aguacil’s style of play, whilst sometimes pretty, can be quite attritional and low-scoring with the percentages quite low in terms of attacking play. That can be seen in their opening two matches of the season where they have lacked a cutting edge despite being the better side in both of their 1-1 draws against Celta last weekend, in which they conceded a 94th minute equaliser, and against Girona on the opening day where they conceded a 72nd minute equaliser.
THE TEAM NEWS
LAS PALMAS
Garcia Pimienta, like most of the more progressive modern coaches such as Mikel Arteta, is shifting to a 4-1-4-1 system for this season but he remains without key man, Alberto Moleiro, due to injury.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Valles; Lemos, Suarez, Marmol, Sinkgraven; Rodriguez; Viera, Munoz, Loiodice, Munir; Sandro
UNAVAILABLE: Moleiro (Injured), Gonzalez (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
REAL SOCIEDAD
The loss of both Aritz Elustondo and Mikel Merino in particular is a blow for Imanol Aguacil’s quite narrow system so La Real will be forced into a change in midfield.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-2-1): Remiro; Traore, Zubeldia, Le Normand, Munoz; Mendez, Zubimendi, Turrientes; Kubo, Barrenetxea; Fernandez
UNAVAILABLE: Merino (Injured), Elustondo (Injured), Merquelanz (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
With an attacking line-up that consists of Jonathan Viera, Sandro Ramirez and Munir, Las Palmas, especially at home, will seek to get after their stubborn and difficult to break down opposition. Real Sociedad will be frustrated with back-to-back victories so far and Aguacil, as a result, may well be tempted to get his side on the front foot a little more, especially against newly-promoted opposition. Despite the fact that these two sides have been involved in low-scoring encounters so far, both teams scoring seems like good value as they grow into the campaign.
