THE LOWDOWN
LAS PALMAS
Following promotion last season, Canary Islanders Las Palmas have enjoyed an extremely impressive 2023/24 La Liga campaign as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half and just outside of the top seven and the European qualification spots behind Valencia by just a single point.
The home team, under the management of former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, come into this one on the back of back-to-back victories in La Liga. They hammered Villarreal by three goals to nil before goals from Alberto Moleiro and Javier Munoz helped them defeat Rayo Vallecano 2-0 at Vallecas last weekend.
REAL MADRID
Real Madrid have the week off for this one and they will be grateful for it after their elimination from the Copa del Rey against Atletico Madrid about ten days ago. Los Blancos, under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, have worked extremely hard in this calendar year and they needed to exert more energy than they would have liked last weekend.
Madrid came from 2-0 down away to bottom-of-the-table and winless Almeria last week to win by three goals to two with a Dani Carvajal winner in second-half stoppage-time. That was their fourth successive victory in La Liga and they also hammered Barcelona in the final of the Supercopa de Espana a couple of weeks ago in Saudi Arabia.

THE PREDICTION
Las Palmas’ style of football is easy on the eye with an emphasis on being dominant in terms of passing and generally progressive. However, that can often become quite stale with the overall premise being to control the tempo, territory and their opposition. They face a Real Madrid side that have generally lacked a bit of fluency with a slight over-reliance on the suspended Jude Bellingham. Madrid remain favourites, of course, but backing a low-scoring encounter would also represent good value.
TIP: REAL MADRID TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
