THE LOWDOWN

LAS PALMAS

Following their promotion to the top-flight of Spanish football last season, Las Palmas enjoyed an impressive first few months back in La Liga. Under the management of former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, the Canary Islanders, often dubbed ‘the Brazilians of Spanish football’ assured themselves of safety as early as February but have majorly drifted.

The home team come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat away to Real Mallorca in Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic Islands with Mallorca pretty much confirming survival with a 29th minute winning goal from defender Giovanni Gonzalez. That means Las Palmas are now winless in their last 11 matches.

REAL BETIS

Coached by former Malaga, West Ham United, Manchester City and Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis have come through a major dip in form mid-way through this campaign and have steadied themselves to begin this midweek round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top seven and the European spots.

The Andalusians are even now inside the top six ahead of this match day thanks to their improvement in form of late. Betis come into this one on the back of an entertaining 3-2 win at home to Almeria in their most recent putting with Pablo Fornals and Isco putting them 2-0 up before Ayoze Perez notched a 64th minute winner.

THE TEAM NEWS

LAS PALMAS

After recently returning from an injury, Julian Araujo is missing through suspension this week, whilst former Ajax man Daley Sinkgraven is out injured, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Valles; Suarez, Coco, Marmol, Curbelo; Park, Perrone, Rodriguez, Ramirez; Moleiro, Munir

UNAVAILABLE: Araujo (Suspended), Sinkgraven (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

REAL BETIS

Both German Pezzella and Marc Bartra are missing through injury for this week, whilst Cedric Bakambu is also missing. Assane Diao and Chimy Avila are both doubts, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Silva; Sabaly, Sokratis, Riad, Miranda; Rodriguez, Cardoso; Fornals, Isco, Ayoze Perez; Willian Jose

UNAVAILABLE: Pezzella (Injured), Bartra (Injured), Bakambu (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Diao (Injured), Avila (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

It has been a generally impressive campaign for Las Palmas and they have spent much of it tucked inside the top-half and in contention for UEFA Europa Conference League football. However, they have faded quite badly and can be fairly described as very much ‘on the beach’. Real Betis, in comparison, are finishing with a flourish and are aiming to hold off Real Sociedad in the top six spots so an away win would appear the best bet for this one in the Canary Islands.

TIP: REAL BETIS TO WIN
