LAS PALMAS PREVIEW: FINALLY WINNING

Garcia Pimienta departed Las Palmas this summer to go and become the new coach at Sevilla after he had led the Canary Islanders to promotion and then comfortable survival in La Liga in the last couple of seasons. They had started the season with no victory in their opening nine matches but earned their much-needed win the other day.

Garcia Pimienta’s replacement, Luis Carrion, earned his first victory of the season with an entertaining 3-2 victory against Valencia at Mestalla on Monday. Pepelu opened the scoring for the Valencians before goals from Alex Munoz, Fabio Silva and Alberto Moleiro. Cesar Tarrega did pull a goal back in second-half stoppage-time.

GIRONA PREVIEW: GIRONA’S MUCH-NEEDED WIN

In each of the last two summer transfer windows, Girona have had to sell key players and try to rebuild their squad. This summer, the Catalans lost Aleix Garcia, Savio and Artem Dovbyk. Michel predicted they may struggle this time around and that has been the case as they begin the weekend sitting in the bottom-half of La Liga.

The Catalans do come into this one on the back of a much-needed 2-0 defeat of Slovan Bratislava at the Montilivi in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. Prior to that victory, Girona had managed just one victory in their previous eight matches across all competitions since the September international break.

LAS PALMAS TEAM NEWS: COUPLE OF ISSUES

The home team have a couple of injury issues for this weekend’s clash with Girona in Gran Canaria as defender Marvin Park is unavailable due to a hamstring injury.

The defender has a couple of other issues but the key issue for Las Palmas would be that former Everton forward Sandro Ramirez is an injury doubt.

LAS PALMAS VS GIRONA PREDICTION

Las Palmas have often been known as the ‘Brazilians of Spanish football’ and not just because of the colour of their kit. The Canary Islanders have also been able to play an exciting and entertaining style of football. Even when Girona have underperformed this season or overperformed last season, they have remained one of the most thrilling teams to watch in La Liga and both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one at Estadio Gran Canaria.
