THE LOWDOWN

GRANADA

Alexander Medina replaced Paco Lopez a couple of months ago and performances have steadied but Granada, following promotion last season, are destined for an inevitable return immediately back down to the second-tier. The Andalusians begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting six points adrift of safety.

They come into this one on the back of needing a late equaliser to share a 1-1 draw with bottom-of-the-table and still winless Almeria, last weekend. That was their third successive draw and they have managed just two victories in their 25 matches so far this season, conceding nearly two goals per game on average in the process.

VALENCIA

Ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, it was expected that Valencia would have to endure a similar campaign to last season when they only avoided the drop on the final day of the campaign. However, under the management of Ruben Baraja, they are actually heading into the final few months of the campaign in the hunt for a top seven finish and potential European qualification.

Valencia come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with an improving Sevilla side at Mestalla in their most recent outing, last weekend. That result does mean they have managed just one win in their last four matches and highlights their goal scoring issues whereby they have only managed just 29 goals in 25 matches so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

GRANADA

Gerard Gumbau is missing for Granada through suspension this weekend, whilst Raul Fernandez is out injured. Bruno Mendez and Jesus Vallejo are both doubtful.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Batalla; Sanchez, Piatkowski, Angel, Neva; Ruiz, Hongla, Villar; Pellistri, Uzuni, Melendo

UNAVAILABLE: Gumbau (Suspended), Fernandez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Mendez (Injured), Vallejo (Injured)

VALENCIA

There are only a couple of injury concerns for Ruben Baraja this weekend as Andre Almeida is doubtful, whilst Thierry Correia is absent, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Diakhaby, Mosquera, Gaya; Perez, Pepelu, Guillamon, Canos; Yaremchuk, Duro

UNAVAILABLE: Correia (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Almeida (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Ahead of the campaign, this one would have been expected to be quite important down in La Liga’s relegation battle but neither of the two teams appear set to bother that as the campaign reaches its run-in but for very different reasons. Granada do appear set to be in the waiting section of the season as their mathematical relegation comes into view, whilst Valencia are up at the top end and pushing for Europe. Valencia have made a habit of grinding out victories in these sorts of fixtures and a low-scoring Valencia win, as a result, would appear most likely.

TIP: VALENCIA TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
